Product Description

Ceramic shot is well suited to high-performance applications in wheel and dry/wet air blast equipment. Due to the nature of ceramic material - ceramic shot is inert and contains no material capable of surface contamination. Its long duty cycle makes it a good alternative to high consumption glass bead projects and extremely effective in peening applications.

Ceramic beads are a high quality zirconia based blast medium with a very slow breakdown rate and as such are ideal for impact finishing operations involving both manual and automated machinery, where consistency of finish is important. Additionally, dust levels generated are considerably lower than with the equivalent glass bead.

The standard product is available in a range of different bead sizes and these are ideal for many blast processes such as surface cleaning, deburring, cosmetically enhancing etc. Also available is a higher quality product where checks to roundness, surface defects etc allows the bead to be certified to the demanding standards of aerospace and automotive shot peening applications.

Key Parts Introduction

  • Application

    -Mold cleaning

    -Micro Surface profiling of workpiece

    -Contaminant removal

    -Shot peening

-Blasting of titanium or stainless steel

  • Not promote rust or ferric contamination

Ceramic blast media is one of the best abrasives available in terms of cleaning potential, low dusting properties and reusability. It is an extremely aggressive media and, due to its'composition of 95% pure Aluminum Oxide, it will not promote rust or ferric contamination on the surfaces it is being applied to. It is commonly used in blast cabinets, blast rooms and any production environment where spent abrasive can be reclaimed.

  • Shot peening

Ceramic shot peening and shot blasting is one of the most widely used processes for improving the wear properties of metal surfaces, usually for gears and other complex shapes. Using ceramic and virgin media, shot peening creates dimples on the surface of the gear. The dimples retain beneficial oils and eliminate geartooth pitting, increasing the strength and fatigue life of the gear.

Ceramic beads, due to their toughness and density, are ideally suited to shot blasting. They maintain their shape, resulting in a consistent surface finish. In addition, surfaces finished with ceramic beads are less prone to stains or blemishes during use.

  • Advantages

-Reduced beads consumption (30 - 40 times) against glass blasting media

    -Lower metal surface roughness

-Less operating pressure and reduced abrasive velocity needed than glass blasting media. Thus have far less abrasive breakdown and dust generation, results in cleaner working environment and better operator visibility

-White color, high sphericity and smooth surface beads

-Strong mechanical resistance and high toughness, but gentle with equipment and tools preserving work parts

-Chemically inert, no metallic contamination for treated parts

    -Low dust production
